AKI SASAMOTO – XYZ | PIRELLI HANGARBICOCCA, MILANO

XYZ  is Japanese artist Aki Sasamoto’s first institutional exhibition in Europe, curated by Roberta Tenconi with Tatiana Palenzona at Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan.

The exhibition project is multilayered, perfectly reflecting the artist’s practice and poetics, which move across performance, sculpture, installation, and video. Her works are the outcome of a hybrid research process that draws on different disciplines and worlds, creating a profound intermingling both in terms of content and in the formal structure of the works themselves.
XYZ unfolds as a dynamic journey, marked by a continuous tension and crescendo, revealing how Sasamoto’s works reflect and reinterpret the world around her. As she herself explains, “my work deals with problems in life, not art”.
Through her interdisciplinary approach, Aki Sasamoto has the ability to bring opposites into coexistence: movement and stillness, science and intuition, play and rigour. Each work has the power to raise questions, establish connections, and open up reflections for the audience on the present and on the possible trajectories of life.
