ALL THAT CHANGES YOU. METAMORPHOSIS, ISAAC JULIEN | PALAZZO TE, MANTOVA

The newly renovated spaces of Palazzo Te have reopened to the public, hosting All That Changes You. Metamorphosis by Isaac Julien. Curated by Lorenzo Giusti, the project takes the form of a multi-screen installation featuring a film shot partly within the palace’s rooms and inspired by the celebrated frescoes of Giulio Romano. From these works, it develops an exploration of themes such as metamorphosis, philosophy, and anthropology.
The narrative is entrusted to two mythological and prophetic figures, portrayed by actresses Sheila Atim and Gwendoline Christie, who appear as celestial entities drawn from the frescoes themselves. The film follows their journey through time, from the 16th century—the period when the palace was built—to a futuristic dimension. As the eras shift, their forms change as well, while a reflection on humanity remains constant: a critique of anthropocentrism and an invitation to rethink our relationship with the planet from a perspective of coexistence with nature and other forms of life.
