How Matter Comes to Matter, hosted by Onomatopee in Eindhoven and curated by Cecilia Casabona, reflects on precarity as a shared condition of existence and on survival as a collective process grounded in relationships of interdependence. Within this perspective, vulnerability is not understood as a limitation, but as a force capable of generating new forms of imagination, cooperation, and transformation.
The exhibition brings together works by Ginevra Petrozzi, Katarzyna Perlak, Tin Ayala, Yassine Ben Abdallah, Vera van der Burg, and Arjun Das, highlighting the role of matter as a common thread running through their diverse artistic practices. Rather than being conceived as a mere support, matter is understood as an active agent that carries traces, memories, and processes of change, creating connections across different temporalities and making visible forms of knowledge that emerge through shared experience. The works on view thus explore the relationship between artistic production, material culture, and the construction of collective imaginaries.
The exhibition unfolds as an environment in which languages, materials, sounds, and spatial devices contribute to making perceptible modes of existence based on collaboration and exchange. Within this context, curatorial practice and exhibition-making become relational tools capable of activating new interpretations and ways of seeing.
The scenography and visual identity have been developed by Paskamer, an exhibition design collective that conceived a landscape inspired by the Dutch imaginary, where the boundaries between the natural and the artificial gradually dissolve. The result is a suspended and uncanny environment, in which familiar elements take on unexpected qualities, inviting visitors to engage with a reality in constant transformation.
The sound component, created by Erik Campanini and Alessio Bruno, draws inspiration from public address systems commonly found in shared spaces. Through a sequence of voices, sounds, and signals transmitted as if from a radio station located in an imagined dimension, the installation creates an acoustic landscape that accompanies the exhibition journey, oscillating between tangible experience and narrative fiction.
