IF WE STAY, WE STAY AWAKE is the solo exhibition by SAGG Napoli, a multidisciplinary artist from Naples, born in 1991, created specifically for Galeria Contemporânea. Her practice spans performance, video, sculpture, photography, writing, and digital culture, exploring the identity of Southern Italy through themes such as social class, gender, regionalism, and mental health.
Curated by Inês Grosso, the exhibition is hosted at the Serralves Foundation—Museum of Contemporary Art. SAGG Napoli presents a spatial and sound installation created with the contribution of composer and sound designer Matteo Pit, drawing inspiration from materials, objects, and architectural interventions found in social housing and self-built homes. Based on research developed in Porto and references to the context of Southern Italy, particularly the Salento region, the project reflects on the everyday practices through which residents transform and adapt their domestic spaces, questioning the boundaries between care, design, and what is instead perceived as disorder.
