Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art presents one of the most important contemporary voices of our time: Jenny Saville, in an exhibition curated by Elisabetta Barisoni, with the support of Gagosian.
Saville defines herself as “a painterly painter – flesh, body, portrait – human nature,” and through her monumental canvases she moves across the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, between the informal and the gestural, ultimately giving shape to a contemporary humanism. At the heart of her practice is the figure, understood as body, face, and identity, through which she makes tangible what acts both within and beyond it.
Her most recent research addresses powerful, emotional, and symbolic themes, such as war and pain understood as a collective experience. Through her works, she transforms suffering, making it universal and capable of speaking across languages and historical periods. Saville confronts reality without filters, conveying its raw and not always idyllic dimension through painting, a medium she continually subjects to new forms of experimentation, pushing it beyond its limits.
