The exhibition Corpi speciali, curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti and presented at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, places the body at its centre, moving beyond a purely object-based representation and restoring its potential as a tool through which to interpret the contemporary world.
The bodies portrayed in the exhibition are seen, interpreted, and observed through the lens of Luigi & Iango (Luigi Murenu and Iango Henzi), the artistic duo whose practice brings together photography, fashion, and contemporary art.
In the artists’ photographs, the body is never merely a body; instead, it becomes a space through which individuals can continuously create, dismantle, and reconstruct their own identities.
Luigi & Iango compose images in which rigorous construction coexists with theatricality, ambiguity, and vulnerability. Their photographs are marked by a constant tension between monumentality and fragility, recognisable symbols and the deconstruction of stereotypes, light and shadow, attraction and questioning.
In Corpi speciali, through previously unseen images alongside iconic works by the artists, the portrait—an iconographic subject that has always been present throughout the history of art—emerges as a space in which we can perceive both what we choose to show and what we choose to keep hidden.
